Credits and Titles

Whats the purpose of credits and titles?

The purpose of credits and titles is that it tells us what actors and actresses are going to be in the film, this will be ordered as the most famous (normally the protagonist of the film) at the beginning of the credits and the least recognizable people will be nearer the bottom of the actors list.

Credits and Titles

Star Wars

The very beginning of the sequence is very effective as it has that huge contrast of colour with the jet black background and bright yellow writing this could be a connotation of the good vs evil when Luke is fighting Darfader. Also the idea of having in space already sets the scene for us as starwars is set on an unknown planet an in space.
The first sentence which appears quotes 'A long time ago in a galaxy far away..' Telling us immediately that this film is set in the past.

Se7en

Genre: Horror

The style of the credits all depends on the genre of the film. Se7en is a horror film which is conveyed in the credits and titles as the use of dull colours with a hint of red -symbolising blood- is shown. The connotations of this is blood and death and the white can represent the innocence of the people he is killing which gives the sequence a juxtaposition element of the good and the evil.
The editing of the sequence is key as it is very fast pace keeping us on our toes not only with the opening but throughout the whole film as he kills many people and do it in very particular ways. The editing also used jump cuts which is common in a horror film as it adds a mysterious element and once again keeps us on our toes.
The font used reiterates the idea of danger, confusion and death as it is free hand and a little messy this could relate to the idea of suicide notes of pass deaths, and link to the idea of the events what is going on in the film where we watch the killer create traps and clues - hand written ones. This makes the film have a mysterious feel to it as we don't know what's going to happen in it. By the looks of how everything is presented in the opening sequence the killer seems to have OCD as the clues of newspaper clippings and the evidence is marked out very neatly and it is very well though out inferring that the killer is very intelligent and thinks about everything he does.
