How are characters conveyed and constructed in films?
Characters in films are the main conventions as they construct the narrative and are the driving point for our plot. Characterisations are all down to the writers as it's their interpretation of a character, and how they want to be perceived by the audience, i.e. a stereotypical blonde woman who has been framed for the male gaze, might been typically shown as weak and vulnerable all due to societies perception, where as men in films are stereo-typically depicted as strong and heroic; nowadays women are becoming stronger and more independent as they are representing a modern day woman.
These two woman are great examples of being strong independent women, even though they both have two completely different backgrounds they both pronounce the idea of women being strong and strong enough to look after themselves as well as other people.
Rachel Keller - The ring

When we first see Rachel Keller we expects a stereo typically beautiful blonde as presented to us as she is typically stunning and wears makeup and does her hair nicely making her instantly seem vulnerable also concluding this as she has a son and is maternal.
In the first scene we see Rachel caring for her Mother showing she is typically a maternal and caring person but then has a phone call asking is she can look into a murder investigation case - showing us that she is a police officer breaking the stereo types as in her profession you have to be very intelligent and educated.
Emotions are conveyed to us as Keller is understandable distraught when her son dies showing us her very maternal and loving side.
Keller is strong and determined to save her and her sons life but only has 7 days. Even though she subverts the stereo types she still leans on her ex-boyfriend Noah for support in helping her save both her and their sons life.
Freddy Krueger - A nightmare on elm street

Freddy has a very hard childhood being brought up as a fatherless child with a mother who was raped hundreds of times, to which Freddy turned out to be an extremely messed up child who liked to kill small animals. When Krueger grew into an adult he turned his masochistic behavior on himself after suffering abuse from his step father for many years he brutally murdered him with a razor.
Whilst working Krueger created his infamous 6 inch gloves made from old glove and four razor sharp blades that he attacked to the glove and went on a killing spree. He kidnapped and murdered 23 children between 1975-1877.

Krueger has sinister traits and isn't affected by his murders and kidnappings.
He is strong, powerful and crazy.
